THE new curator for Walthamstow's William Morris Gallery and Vestry House Museum has been revealed.
Jemma Taylor, 28, has spent the past five years as manager curator at her local museum in Alnwick, Northumbria.
The Bailiffgate Museum opened six years ago, and Ms Taylor began her work there as a volunteer.
She told the Northumberland Gazette that she has enjoyed having a free rein at the museum, which has grown with the support of the community, trustees and staff.
Ms Taylor said of her new job: "It will be a brand new challenge. It is a bigger site and quite an important collection and there will be lots more staff."
The Bailiffgate Museum's permanent exhibition tells the story of the community around Alnwick using a mix of traditional and interactive digital displays.
Ms Taylor, who begins work in Waltham Forest on March 3, has overseen an increase in the number of staff employed at the Bailiffgate, and introduced a series of innovative schemes to encourage attendance.
These included pub quizzes, fashion shows, and a series of temporary art exhibitions.
The museum has grown considerably since its opening and launched a new website at bailiffgatemuseum.co.uk last year.

I wish the new curator the best of luck. The challenge she faces is from the people she may expect to be supporting her.
The 'new broom' that we desperately need is not in the museum or gallery but in the council offices.
These venues have incompetently run, not by their dedicated staff but by the council department that should have been promoting and supporting them.

Thinking wistfully about that 'new broom' -- how well employed it would be in the town hall.
The museum and gallery don't need a new broom. The council has already swept out the expert staff who loved and understood both venues, and brushed aside the views of their many supporters.
It's the highly paid councillors and officials who have run these places down, failed to publicise the museum or gallery or make any effort to develop them. They're the ones who should be dumped in the bin! Any chance of a new broom in the council offices?

I'm glad she sees it as 'quite an important collection'.... 'quite an understatement'

I've been to The Bailiffgate Museum and I have to say I was impressed - in particular given its likely meagre budget. If Jemma Taylor delivers half of the success she brought to The Bailiffgate Museum then Walthamstow's William Morris Gallery and Vestry House Museum are in for a bright future.
