A WOODFORD Green vicar has joined clergy from south Asia in stressing the importance of global issues and the responsibility on the younger generation.

Rev Paul Harcourt, vicar of All Saints' Church, Woodford Wells, was addressing students at Davenant Foundation School in Loughton.

The talk was part of a Davenant International meeting on the Christian Perspective on Global Issues'.

Rev Martin Mondal flew in from Bangladesh to report on the issue of poverty and natural disasters in the country.

Both he and Rev Vinod Victor were involved in the recent South Asia Youth Conference held in India.

Rev Lalith Lakshendrakum ar Arumugavadivel from Jaffna in Sri Lanka spoke about the current situation in his country and fielded questions on the impact of the tsunami from students.

At the meeting, Rev Harcourt emphasised how important it was for the younger generation to think globally.

Adam Redpath, the vice-president of Davenant International, told students that the clergymen had much to teach them.
