BUCKHURST HILL ladies are the 2007 champions of the Forest District League after Thelma Ramsden, Carol Freeman, Margaret Langwith and Daphne Wood, with Ros Pike as travelling reserve, beat Wanstead Central 25-15 in the group play-off final.

The ladies also beat Ilford on all three rinks of triples in a friendly.

The club finished second in the annual Charity Triples Cup contested by Buckhurst Hill, Connaught, Loughton and Woodford. Hill lost 17-23 to Connaught, the eventual winners, in the semi-final, and beat Loughton 21-8 in the third-place play-off. Money raised went to the Jim Bareham Minibus Trust.

Malcolm Lord won two titles in the Walthamstow & District Bowling Association finals (see below).

In the Thursday Fours League Division Four, the E team completed their rain-delayed match against Higham Hill B winning 25-17.

Two men's friendly matches against Connaught and Harlow resulted in defeat.

CONNAUGHT won the Hospital Triples Charity Competition at Woodford on Sunday after beating the host club in the final. The team of Janet Gray, J Gray and T Mould beat Woodford trio E Riley, D Wright and K Riely 18-8.

In the Foresters League, they beat Silverthorn 62-56. Doug Talbot, Derek Brown, John Henninger 20-10; Bert Scott, Derek Baptie, Len Smith 15-12; Harry Snares, Ed Stevens, Norman McDonald 11-11; Steve Powell, Pat Butler, Barry Bates 16-23.

Connaught were too strong for Phil Vass, Derek Brown, Harry Snares and Ed Stevens in the Thursday Fours winning 26-11.

WANSTEAD ladies collected their first Saban League title with a resounding 36-24 win over Wanstead Central last Friday. Dorothy Savage, Vi Robertson and skip Chris Strudwick led the way 19-7, while Carol Ludlow, Peggy Hammond and Liz Batchelor drew 17-17 to give Wanstead the title.

Wanstead then held their Finals Weekend with Alf Kitchener winning the Men's Championship 21-17 against Bob Ellis and Chris Strudwick beating Liz Batchelor 21-17 to take the Ladies Championship crown.

John Warren beat Frank Ludlow 22-14 in the men's junior championship and Hilary Warren beat Edie Tinker 22-17 in the ladies junior event.

Ralph Dearman beat Alan Carter in the best of three sets mixed singles.

WANSTEAD CENTRAL retained the Jackson Challenge Shield, beating Ilford 62-57 over three rinks in the London Parks Bowling Association finals at Old Coulsdon Bowling Club on Saturday.

Terry Lichkin, Bob Anderson, Russell Hughes, Paul Whellam lost to Ilford's Jock McCabe, Ian Scammell, Mick Pace, Paul Lidbury 13-22; Len Welton, Mick Bird, Jim Reynolds, Derrick Kendrick beat Mick Bevis, Keith Tyler, Bob Parnell, Terry Hughes 32-16. Brian Jones, Bill Wray, Colin Foster, Steve Welsh lost to Dave Betts, Dave Brock, Bill Beney, Chris Granger by two shots after a tense finale. Ilford were no doubt disappointed to lose the match after winning two of the three rinks contested but it was overall shots that counted on the day.

In the Clark Bowl Fours Championship final, Central's Keith Lloyd, Colin Foster, Russell Hughes, Bob Druce lost 8-20 to a Romford team.

In the Prescott Bowl Pairs Championship final, Keith Lloyd and Bob Druce losst 15-19 to Romford's Frank Gurnett and Jamie Holmes.
