OLYMPICS: Iron Age remains found on 2012 site
A London Museum archeologist with the human remains
A London Museum archeologist with the human remains

FOUR skeletons believed to date back to the Iron Age have been found been on the Olympic Park site.

The remains, thought to be about 3,000 years old, were discovered in graves close to where the aquatics centre is being built in Stratford.

Museum of London archaeologists have now completed digs at the sites of the five main Olympic venues.

The four skeletons were discovered in separate graves in a cemetery within an Iron Age settlement.

Experts searching the area have previously uncovered a Roman coin, Roman river walls, World War II gun emplacements and a complete 19th Century boat used for hunting wild fowl on the lower River Lea.

The aquatics centre will be situated beside the river, which is currently being widened by eight metres (8.7 yards) as part of a programme to restore the ancient waterways of the Lower Lea Valley.

It would be nice to see such remains. Maybe they could have a display in the Vestry House Museum? I do miss Walthamstow at times. I miss the old Market. Pie and mash. Stewed Eels and mash with dollops of liquor. I miss the Museum too with the old jail room and the Nags Head Pub. I sold up not long ago, after being offered a great deal of money for my business and home from a developer. I could not refuse it and am sure most would do the same. We are a long time dead as the skeletons show. One should enjoy life

The number of times you've written about house sale you must have sold a whole bleeding housing estate.

I hope that once i am buried no-one digs up my remains and displays them somewhere for all to see. If people want there body to be on show they would not be buried in the first place. We need to have some respect and Leave the dead be, they are not a sideshow.

Sidney,
I challenge you to get the old 'sold up to a developer line' into the next article. Doesn't have to be relevant of course, could be about a lost dog or a change to a bus route. I look forward with anticipation.

I'm a bit amazed to find myself agreeing that Mr Khalid has an interesting idea. A few years ago they found an Iron age skeleton somewhere near Glastonbury: the local headmaster's DNA proved him to be a direct descendant, after 3000 years! We could find out some unexpected things.
