Gunners boss weighing up bid for Real defender

MEDIA reports suggest Arsene Wenger is considering rivalling Chelsea for the signature of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

With the words of chairman Peter Hill-Wood ringing in his ears, Wenger may be tempted to join the race for the talented centre-half (pictured) after admitting he was desperate to land a "powerful centre-back" to shore up his leaky defence.

Hill-Wood said he would back Wenger with any potential signing, insisting the club "have never denied Wenger a penny".

Howver, it would take a bid of around £25million to land Ramos, and it remains to be seen whether Wenger would be willing to break the bank for the young Spaniard.
